The Volkswagen Golf GTI Edition 50 is now available for global import. Celebrating 50 years of the Golf GTI, a line that began in 1976 and now exceeds 2.5 million cars worldwide, it is the most powerful production Golf GTI yet. Its 2.0 litre turbocharged petrol engine produces 325 PS, around 320 bhp, taking the Edition 50 from 0 to 62 mph in 5.3 seconds and on to a top speed of 168 mph, driving the front wheels through a DSG automatic.
It is also the fastest front wheel drive production car around the Nürburgring Nordschleife, with a lap of 7 minutes 44.523 seconds, quicker than any previous Volkswagen production model on the circuit. The Edition 50 uses a MacPherson front axle and a four-link rear axle, sits 15 mm lower than a standard Golf and comes with DCC adaptive chassis control as standard.
An optional GTI Performance package Edition 50 lowers the car a further 5 mm and adds a lightweight R-Performance exhaust with titanium rear silencers, 19-inch forged alloy wheels and Bridgestone Potenza Race semi-slick tyres, the specification used to set the Nürburgring record.
